Tours in Kyoto have been guiding visitors around Kyoto since 1994. Our guides are all longtime residents of Kyoto, bilingual in English and Japanese, and know Kyoto like the back of our hands. We will not only show you the most well-known sights but also the lesser known gems and their unique features.

About Kyoto, Japan
In Japanese, Kyoto was previously known as Kyō, Miyako, or Kyō no Miyako (京の都).
In the 11th century, the city was renamed Kyoto which means "capital city", from the Chinese calligraphic, jingdu. When the city of Edo was renamed to Tokyo which means "Eastern Capital" in 1868, and the seat of the Emperor was moved there, Kyoto was for a short period known as Saikyō "Western Capital". Kyoto is also known as the thousand-year capital.
Located in a valley that forms part of the Yamashiro (or Kyoto) Basin, in the eastern part of the mountainous region known as the Tamba highlands, Kyoto was once the largest city in Japan until it was outgrown by Osaka and Tokyo and remains one of the most beautiful and ancient parts of the country.
