The main summer festival in Kyoto, besides the Gion Matsuri, is the Kyoto Summer Obon Fire Festival, also known as “Daimonji Gozan Okuribi.” This is a traditional event similar to “Day of the Dead or Halloween”, to commemorate the spirits of ancestors.
